Kaivausraportti on nyt tullut, mutta siihen ei ole sisällytetty hiiliajoituksen tuloksia, sillä niitä ei ole vielä saatu.

The site raport is ready now, but unfortunately, it is currently only in Finnish and the carbon dating results are still unknown.

Day 10

Only on the very last day were the findings of the site explained. The small amounts of quartz flakes, coal and rocks strewn about suggest that the site was a temporary camping site meant for preparing food. The style of the fire place was a earth oven used to make rosvopaisti or robber's roast, as it is called. It is more than likely that the food was eaten somewhere else since there were so little bones.

a plow had been used there when the site was a field.

When the carbon dating has been done on the coal samples, it'll be known was the site active the same time as the other sites around the area.

Päivä 10

Vasta viimeisen päivän löydös alkoi selittää kaivetun alueen kummallisuuksia: iskoksia löytyi, mutta vähän, hiiltä löytyi kyntökerroksessa levällään ja tulisijassa kivet oli nostettu kahdelle puolelle noin metrin pituista kuoppaa. Ehkä kyseessä oli tilapäinen leiripaikka, jossa pyydettyjen eläinten lihaa on kypsennetty maakuopassa rosvopaistin tapaan, koska luuta löytyi vain vähän, koska liha on todennäköisesti syöty muualla.

Kunhan joidenkin näytteiden ajanmääritys on tehty, tiedetään enemmän siitä, miten nämä tilapäiset leiripaikat ovat ajallisesti suhteessa vakituiseen kivikautiseen asutukseen alueella.

Day 9

Today we continued exploring the second trial trench in order to further examine the fireplace. There were only a few diggers so also the archeologists participated in the practical work.

The work proceeded swiftly. This picture on the right shows the excavation at the depth of 25 cm, where fireplace rocks and plenty of coal was found.

Päivä 9

Tänään jatkettiin ensimmäisen koeojan jatko-ojan kaivamista tulisijan laajempaa tutkimista varten. Kaivajia oli vähän, joten arkeologitkin osallistuivat käytännön työhön.

Kaivauksissa edettiin reippaasti. Tässä oikealla olevassa kuvassa ollaan n. 25 cm syvyydessä, josta jo löytyi tulisijan kiviä ja runsaasti hiiltä.

Day 8

Due to the fireplace that was found the day before, the dig was extended by two meters. The fireplace has to be documented thorougly and properly, because it is in good condition.


There is a 30 cm thick wall of land between the two digs; this wall is dug out last. This is done to allow systematic digging and preservation of the fireplace in its original form. It makes documentation of the digging easier.

Päivä 8

Eilen löydetyn tulisijan takia kaivausta laajennettiin kahdella metrillä, sillä tulisija täytyy dokumentoida perusteellisesti, varsinkin sen hyväkuntoisuuden takia.


Kahden kaivauksen väliin jätettiin 30 cm maaseinämä, joka kaivetaan lopuksi ulos. Tämä tehdään, jotta järjestelmällinen kaivaminen ja tulisijan säilyttäminen entisessä tilassaan dokumentointia varten helpottuu.
